End of O&G cycle

Finally today is the last day of Obstetric & Gynaecology class after almost 1 month of cycle in the O&G department. Aiyo so tiring. Travel to the hospital take 1 hour, travel back another 1 hour. By 3-4pm when I reach hostel, halfday gone and I’m already half dead and will fall into coma state straight away when I landed on my bed. And now my whole body aches lor. So if someone would offer me free massage now, you will be doing me a big big favor!

And so, there are 2 really good teachers in the O&G department and they taught their students a lot of things. Getting them to teach us should be a blessing in disguise. But they are also feared by the students the most. One of them already 30+ yrs old but was single, unmarried, without children, not even an affair so her mood is like the weather, changes every seconds. She can be nice and smiling at you now and screaming at you the next. But luckily, a kind man came over, proposed to her and took her as his wife and now she is pregnant and is on maternity leave for 2 years.

Another teacher is feared by us because she is a professor and she is too smart and she expect us to be on par with her knowledge. Everyday she will randomly throw you a question from the sky and only God knows the answer but she expect you to answer her within 1 minute. The good outcome from if you don’t know how to answer her question is she skipped to another student for answer, the worst outcome from this is she fail you for today’s class and you have to come back for replacement class (the russian called it atraboka). And by luck/by chance, we got her as our teacher.

So you can imagine how stressful it is for us trying to survive her class. But her class is not as scary as how the other students described. As long as you bring your brain to class and not leave it in the bed, somehow, you will be able to answer her question logically.

I never like O&G because I’m always very blur at it and other teachers are too busy to bother if you have learn enough from them. Now I could catch back 90% of this subject, learn to read a bit of cardiotocogram and ultrasound. So I guess having the most fearsome teacher is not bad at all. At least I forced myself to work a little harder, study a little bit more, ignore other activities a bit more, almost forgotten about my blog for few times and spend a little bit more time sleeping!

And the last day of class, we took a really nice group photo with Prof. Elena N. A.

One year has passed. 14th of June last year, I was diagnosed with cancer of the right parotid gland. At that time, both of my parents and my doctor advised me to take 1 year leave from studies because of my health but I insisted to continue. Though it was difficult for me because my body is weak and I gets tired easily after chemotherapy but I made it to complete my 5th year studies. Now I’m officially final year medic student. Yay! v^^v

Now still got 1 more year to graduate. I hope everything will go smoothly. I’m paranoid with brain cancer issue lately. 5 years of remission is a long period of time, anything can happen during this 5 years. Someone added me on msn. His mother survived breast cancer 2 years ago and recently they found metastasis of cancer cells to the brain and she is udergoing treatment in SJMC now.

The distance of the neck and brain is shorter than from the breast to the brain lor. Some more symptoms of brain cancer is so general that one might not even notice it. Headache, slight memory impairment, nausea, loss of appetite etc. Talking about headache, occassionally I have headache on the occipital region for no apparent reason. Sometimes I worry that something might goes wrong somewhere. And memory impairment… I forgotten about a lot of our ex-schoolmate names but they remember me… is this consider something bad?

Hmmm… I think I need to get a brain scan this time. I couldn’t imagine that if I had to go through the whole process of treatment again. The unbearable pain, the ulcers and blisters and unable to eat and taste for 4 months. So suffering.

The story of a girl.

Somebody got this question from the interviewer today, “Why do you want to become a doctor?”

To me this is a very simple question, just answer with all your heart and tell them what you really want and that will be the best answer. Unless, you don’t have a dream at all, you just happen to in medic school to fulfill your mum’s childhood ambition or you just feel too embarrassed to tell them that you are aiming for the money.

If you ask me why? This is my answer since I was small, now and forever. Because I want to give life a second chance to live. Every life is unique and precious. Even identical that twins look the same but they are different from each other personality wise, character, interest. You will never be able to find another person like that person you know in this world, that’s why they are so precious.

There are so many reasons that brought me to where I am today.
10 years ago, my grandfather was very ill but no one could find out the reason why and progressively he become weaker day by day and one day, he passed away without saying goodbye. I was still in school at that time, still thought that when I go home, I could see my grandfather but no matter how many times I call him, he would’nt answer. No, he will never answer me anymore. He will not wait for school bus come with me anymore. No one will bring me go buy candies and chocolates anymore. The world hasn’t change much but just that someone is missing.

Sometimes I think maybe the doctors are not good enough, maybe they did not try their best to save him, or maybe they are slow. What if I am a doctor? What if I could find out the cause of his pain and I can cure him? I will make sure he lives until he see me get married and have children. I wonder what if….. but we cannot turn back time. We can only move forward, learn from experience and help other people. Life and death is fated, some says.

Not everyone can get another chance to live. Only some could meet the fated doctor that will bring them miracle. I met a very skillful and dedicated surgeon and a very good oncologist. Because of them, I recover so quickly. I hope I could create miracle in other’s life. I hope that other children won’t be going home from the hospital crying like I did because of the lost of their loved ones.

Dentist: How is your gum doing after the radiotherapy? Do you feel your mouth very dry?
Me: I think it’s fine. No bleeding when I brush my teeth and I brush my teeth 5 times a day with biotene toothpaste, and I continue using Gengigel. And I drink water very frequent.
Dentist: Good. But there’s signs of tooth decay here and here and there. I’ll give you a bottle of antiseptic mouthwash and don’t take SWEET things.
Me: T-T….. no more sweeeeett stuff (no cakes, no deserts, no ice-cream!!!~)

Uuuuuwwwaaaa~ but I love cakes wor and Baskin Robins…. and Ferrero Roche….
Haih~ (-_-)”

What is tooth decay?Tooth decay is the process that results in a cavity (dental caries). It occurs when bacteria in your mouth make acids that eat away at a tooth. If not treated, tooth decay can cause pain, infection, and tooth loss.

The Cause of Tooth decay
The combination of bacteria and food causes tooth decay. A clear, sticky substance called plaque that contains bacteria is always forming on your teeth and gums. As the bacteria feed on the sugars in the food you eat, they make acids. The acids attack the teeth for 20 minutes or more after eating. Over a period of time, these acids destroy tooth enamel, resulting in tooth decay.

You make tooth decay more likely if:
- You don’t brush your teeth twice a day, in the morning and before bedtime.
- You don’t floss your teeth each day.
- You eat foods with a lot of sugar in them. The longer a sugary food stays on your teeth, the more the bacteria feed and make acids. Sticky sweets and sugary foods, such as raisins, sugar-coated cereal, cake, cookies, caramel, and taffy, cause the most damage. (there goes my cakes!!!)
- Lack of fluoride in the public water supply also makes tooth decay more likely.

You can pass the bacteria that cause tooth decay to your baby. This can happen when you share spoons, forks, and other utensils with babies. The saliva you leave on the utensil contains the bacteria. Sometimes kissing can also transfer saliva and bacteria. You can help prevent tooth decay in your child by making sure that your family practices good dental health habits.
(=_= so I shouldn’t kiss anyone as well….. *misery)

Did you notice how swollen is my face? When hospital open tomorrow, I better call Dr.Foo. She told me the swelling will go away after 3 months but I still look like pao face now =X. It’s very abnormal of course because it is not proportionate to my current body weight and size.

I took this picture in Dubai airport, departure hall. Nice hor? I like the way they put the palm trees along the escalator.

I was in Dubai, transit for 10 hours. Yup… so I missed my New Year countdown and all the fireworks, and screaming and crazy people running around.

We all know Jennifer Lopez come out with her own perfume brand. But do you know got watches too? Look what I found in Dubai. JLo watch by Jennifer Lopez ^^. *delighted.

Since I’m so lonely, celebrating my New Year Eve in such a miserable way, so I bought this watch to cheer myself. Initially wanted to buy the other one that looks like a charm bracelet but I got not enough money. Lol. Yea… I memang damn poor wan. Lack of 10 euro, that watch cost 110 euro after discounted. So in the end I bought this one which cost only 58 euro. Can consider quite cheap right? I hope so… akaka if not my dad will throw me out of the house for wasting money.

This time the flight from Dubai to KL is so packed. Why do everyone have to choose to fly on 31st dec and 1st jan ler? So difficult to get ticket and Emirates earn a fortune from us. I paid additional RM1800 to get a place for this flight!!! Wasted nia…. I want to buy PDA phone…. uuuu… uuu… uuu…. now so poor.

Today the weather is good. The sky is so blue. The cloud is satu bijik satu bijik like “tang yuan”. The scenery looks so beautiful outside the window. I feel like as if I’m touching the sky.

Life is so wonderful. God created a lot of beautiful things in the world. But usually we never notice it. How nice if the sky looks like this everyday.
